Setting up the Advanced Category Excluder

There are times when you need to write a post on your blog just to keep some fresh content on the site for SEO purposes. If you get busy on other projects it may be hard to get to your blog and write the kind of article you need to write. One of the tricks you can use is something I do on My Newbie Blog from time to time when I need to get an article posted but just don’t have time to write a quality article on how to create a blog. Set up the Advanced-Category-Excluder plugin.

This handy little plugin lets you exclude categories from your home page, from your RSS feed, from your archives etc. so you can in effect write a post that is just between you and the search engines. Even when I do this I don’t write gibberish, I usually just write about what’s happening with the site and whatever else is on my mind in relation to the site. It’s not that it is bad or useless information, it just isn’t for the consumption of everyone.

This always works me past any writer’s block issues as I can just kind of free flow about what is happening without worrying about what people reading the article might be thinking. I make sure to include my keywords, again not in any ridiculous way, but just as they sort of flow out of my thoughts. This article would be an example of what I am talking about, although I will have to post this article in order to make the category active so that I can exclude it.

You can get the Advanced-Category-Plugin at the WordPress plugin repository. It is simple to install and very easy to use. I use it on all my niche sites as well so I can keep lots of fresh content on the site that it is not necessarily completely on topic. For example, when I am developing a site that I know no one is going to find for months, I will just write about the development of the site. That keeps me writing articles that pertain to the keywords. Once the site begins to show up on the search engines, I exclude that category and write the informational articles that need to be on the site. If you read this and get what I just said and realize how much time I just saved in you in research for a niche site that is months away from having any traffic, I am sure you will want to send me a virtual coffee. So sure in fact, I will put the cup on this post.
